In the summer of 2017, Nicole Nelson traveled to central Kenya to participate in an annual humanitarian effort sponsored by the Global Community Leadership program. The Kenya 2017 team worked in the Kabururu village helping to construct community classroom facilities and to promote education, art, health and economic stability of the area.
Following their service projects completion, the Kenya humanitarian team traveled to the Ol Pejeta Wildlife Conservancy. The 90,000 acre nature reserve is located on the equator west of Mount Kenya and boasts the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa. It also houses the two remaining northern white rhino in the world. The Conservancy is
host to a large selection of other African animals, which makes it a popular safari destination. All members of the "big-five game" animals are located here, including the African lion, cape buffalo, African elephant, leopard and rhinoceros. Other animals include the hyena, oryx, hartebeest, zebra, serbal, cheetah, giraffe, vervet monkey, baboon, hippo, impala, eland, gazelles and jackal. There are also over 300 bird species on the Conservancy. This limited Artwestimage gallery features animals from Ms. Nelson's two-day journey through the park.
