- Title: Havasu Portrait HDR
- Description: Havasu Falls, on the Havasupai Reserve, south of Grand Canyon requires hiking a 12 mile trek from Hilltop to Supai, then to the falls location. Supai Village, located within Havasu Canyon, is not accessible by road. The Havasupai Tribe administers the land, which lies outside the boundary and jurisdiction of Grand Canyon National Park. The hike along the bottom of Hualapai Canyon is long but relatively flat. The most difficult part of this hike is in the very beginning of the trail where you need to get to the bottom of the canyon, switch-backing down steep terrain for about a mile. It also becomes the most challenging part of the trip, on the way out! Artwestimage image staff visited the site in late December of 2007, prior to the big floods from August of 2008. The current hieght of the falls has been lowered via a narrow channel at the lip of the canyon. The falls is not as dramatic as it appeared here in '07 It will take several decades for the travertine to build up enough to regain the leveling effect that this image depicts.
