- Title: 1000 Years in the Making
- Description: Known for its carved petroglyphs and painted pictographs, Medicine Lodge is one of Wyoming’s premier archaeological sites. It’s one of the most significant archaeological sites in the West, located in Big Horn County, just north of Hyattville. Rock art covers the face of a 750-foot long sandstone bluff and cliff-face, which shelters the area at its base from wind. On the bluff, there are thousands of petroglyphs and pictographs that depict human figures, shield-bearing warriors, bears, mountain sheep and a vivid outline of an elk pierced by arrows. The archeological site was designated in 1973 and is managed as a state park, with campgrounds. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
