- Title: En Toto Elk
- Description: Legend Rock features over 50 separate rock panels with over 300 different petroglyphs (images pecked or carved into rock) and a few pictographs (drawn or painted on the rock). The site is probably best known for it’s large, elaborate, and highly abstract anthropomorphic petroglyphs. There are also depictions of humans as well as birds and animals such as elk, deer, bighorn sheep, horses, canids, and buffalo. “The images themselves often show a striking mastery of form and execution that belies their outward simplicity,” Keyser and Klassen write. “They are also frequently enigmatic and generally very old, hinting at an ancient, mysterious past. But most important, they connect us to the beliefs and cultures of the aboriginal peoples who first discovered and populated this continent.” James D Keyser; Michael Klassen, Plains Indian Rock Art, Seattle: University of Washington Press; Vancouver, BC: UBC Press, ©2001.
