- Title: The Legend Rocks HDR
- Description: According to researcher carbon dating analysis, archaeological tests have estimated the age of the oldest of these images at around 9,000 years. Their Dinwoody style of “pecked” petroglyphs is unique to the Wind River and Bighorn basins of northcentral Wyoming. Legend Rock contains the largest and best preserved Dunwoody collection in the world. Some petroglyphs are fully pecked while others are only an outline. Images include humans and anthromorphs figures, some wearing headdresses. The human-like anthropomorphs and animal-representative zoomorphs have “bizarre combinations of human and animal attributes,” Keyser and Klassen write. James D Keyser; Michael Klassen, Plains Indian Rock Art, Seattle: University of Washington Press; Vancouver, BC: UBC Press, ©2001.
