- Description: Adequately called the "Rock Land" or "Land of Standing Rock" by local indians, this area was explored by the Powell Expedition in July of 1869. From Powell's The Exploration of the Colorado River and Its Canyons, "The main surface of the land is composed of a gradually undulating, red sandstone which is topped with many buttes. Late in the day our party arrived at the confluence of the Green and Grand Rivers."
