  • Title:  51 Ford Flatbed at Old Chico
  • Description:  Gold was discovered in Emigrant Gulch, south of Livingston, Montana in 1863. Miners working in the area lived in a settlement called Yellowstone City. Due to harassment by Crow Indians, Yellowstone City was abandoned by 1865. A new settlement was built at Chico, which had a population of 300 in 1874. As the threat from the Crow tribe abated in the late 1870s, houses were built up Emigrant Gulch, closer to the mines. Many historic buildings still stand in Chico today, including the old schoolhouse and store, as well as boarding houses from the mining days. Today, Chico is a sleepy, little town, full of old antiques, including this old pickup alongside the main road into the gulch.
