Just a few miles from the Clearwater junction, we took a quick and easy stroll through a hemlock and cedar forest to a deep chasm carved in volcanic rock over ions of time. The dull roar of Spahats Falls echoes in the deep lava chasm as it plunges through a keyhole in the rock face 250 feet into the Clearwater River. A large family group of awestruck tourists shared our lofty perch, seeming to care more about how they looked in their selfies, as opposed to seeing this remarkable waterfall. Our photographer paired the tall pine on the cliff face with the length of the falls, which seems to accent the vertical size and scope of this unique setting.
