  • Title:  Mount Victoria and the Plain of Six Glaciers
  • Description:  Taken from the shoreline of Lake Louise, Mount Victoria rises 11365 feet, with the summit being almost 5000 feet above the surface of the lake. First climbed in 1897, by a party led by J Norman Collie, the peak is named for Queen Victoria. Queen Alexandrina Victoria was the queen of England from 1837 until her death in 1901. Like many landmarks in Canada, the names of royalty in the British Empire are used to designate all kinds of geographic locations.
