  • Title:  Jeffrey Pine
  • Description:  125 foot Jeffery Pine Tree at Sugar Pine Park, at southwest shore of Lake Tahoe. The dominant conifer species in the Tahoe area, the Jeffrey Pine is distinguished by the pineapple size cones that litter the forest floor after the snow melt. Artwestimage photographers spent several hours in the lush forests along the beaches and broad canyons surrounding the lake, seeking particularly fine examples of those cones and collected several as momentos of the trip. This particular Jeffrey specimen was in old forest growth near NPS buildings in the foreground at the Sugar Pine picnic area.
