- Title: Betatakin Portrait
- Description: Betatakin ruin, in Navajo National Park, Arizona, was constructed of sandstone, mud mortar, and wood in above 1200 AD. Today only about 80 rooms remain, due to rock falls inside the alcove. There were also a number of structures believed to be built at the base of the cliff as well. But due to this area not being protected by the over-hanging cliff wall, its exposure to the elements led to its destruction by erosion. The layout of these dwellings greatly mirrored that of the Pueblo III structures at Mesa Verde. Betatakin had about 20 room clusters total, including all levels. Artwestimage was in the Betatakin Alcove on July 3, 2006. Staffers also made the 16 mile round trip to explore Keet Seel in Tsegi Canyon.
