- Title: The Wave, Arizona
- Description: The Wave is a sandstone rock formation located in Arizona, United States near its northern border with Utah. The formation is situated on the slopes of the Coyote Buttes in the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness of the Colorado Plateau. The area is administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) at the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument visitor center in Kanab, Utah. Due to the fragile nature of the formation and the large number of people wishing to visit it, a daily lottery system is used to dispense only ten next–day permits in person at the Kanab visitor center. Artwestimage.com photographers scored walk-in permits on their first attempt, on November 23, 2007. Very lucky! After a trip to Antelope Canyon on the day of the lottery, the staffers spent the night in Page, Arizona, before attacking the Wave trail before dawn on Saturday the 24th. After a two hour trudge over frozen sand and icy slick rock, the trekkers got to wave at 9 am. The formation was still in the morning shadows, so the team had some time to get some low-light images, prior to viewing the sunrise and a bright, but crisp midday. This imagery reflects the Wave with in the pre-sun shadows, with the contrast upticked to bring out the richness in the colors.
