2024 Summer Expedition to the Sierra Nevada Mountains Back

Jul 6, 2024

From June 6-21, Greg and Nicole explored the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California.  From their home base in Salt Lake City, the pair traveled to our old stomping grounds in Las Vegas, Nevada.  During their stay, they enjoyed the iconic Mirage Hotel and Casino, which was in its final month of service, before being shut down for reconstruction of the new Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on the property.  From there, they traveled to their expedition jumping-off point at Three Rivers, California, which is just outside Sequoia National Park.  Our team then spent the next five days exploring the Sequoia and Yosemite National Parks, which included several hiking trips in Giant Trees, Grant's Grove, Yosemite Falls, the John Muir Trail, the Mist Trail, and Glacier Point.  After getting their fill of the crowds in Yosemite, the pair crossed Tioga Pass to the east side of the Sierras and went on to Carson City, Nevada, and Lake Tahoe.  Lake Tahoe provided some respite from the crowds, as they found deserted beaches and shorelines as they circumnavigated the lake.  Along the way, they hiked at Sand Harbor, Kings Beach, Tahoe City, Hurricane Bay, Sugarpine Park, Meeks Bay, Emerald Bay and South Lake Tahoe.  To complete their trip they traveled up the Truckee River to Donner Pass and then on to Reno and Salt Lake City via I80.  See our teams' highlight images in our feature gallery, as well as in our Lake Tahoe gallery!
